Travel Slut

Marrakesh. Just the name excites me.

Silk Road spices

Winding through narrow dark alleyways, splashes of color suddenly revealed by swordplays of light.

A souk fragrant with spices. Canvas sacks spilling brilliant turmeric, paprika,  cinnamon in a blazing display of color and smell.

Tagines of slow roasting lamb and chickpeas, tended by women covered in veils. Tea stalls serving brews redolent of fresh mint and dried powders. Rugs hawked by vendors catcalling phrases in English, French, Arabic, hoping to turn a head, provoke a sale.

“Take me to Marrakesh,”I whisper to my beloved, after reading the Sunday Travel section” I always wanted to go there. Please take me.”

He smiles. “This week Marrakech. Next week, you will beg for Paris.” He’s right. I am a travel slut, ready to sleep with any city after reading a few cheap words in a travel guide. Take me anywhere. I am ready to  go.

I wrote this in 2009 but it is more true today. After a year and a half of Covid lockdown, I am ready to pack my passport and run away from home.

How about you? Where is your dream destination? Are you ready to go?

  1. Very nice, I thought you hadn’t told us you’d be in Marrakech this week! Keep that pen in your hand…I’ll be “Kindling” you yet!

Just finished an interesting read “Dark Matter” by Crouch. I didn’t finish the 40 (was it Journeys), got distracted…and they wouldn’t let me renew so I’m on the wait list for it again! Damn.

Deck enclosure finished… Now to find a floor cover so that the bugs don’t join us up through the slatted deck.

Had a lovely Mother’s Day with all my kids. Pizza on the deck and then a visit with the newborn goats in the farm in back of their house. Really special. Also got a wonderful phone call from Renee and Ian (on my birthday)…was so good to talk with them.

    See Jeff’s latest, “Statford Lighthouse”….
