When our NYC apartment accommodations suddenly failed because the roommate returned unexpectedly in the a.m. (not sure who was more surprised & embarrassed when he walked in on us), it was clearly time for a room of our own for our last city night.
Logged onto Priceline, plugged in Upper West Side and 3 plus stars. I didn’t want to risk going super lowball so started at $109. And click! We got a 4 star hotel right at Lincoln Center on the first try. The Empire Hotel is trendy (animal prints, browns and beiges and hip bathroom fixtures & great bed). The view from our room was of Columbus & Broadway looking uptown. The lobby was warm and inviting for drinks or just hanging out. We totally scored! Thank you, Priceline. You came thru on a same day search with a primo hotel to end our trip.
We even experimented and took the A train to Howard Beach and air train to JFK saving a taxi ride. But first, we bought some healthy flight snacks at Whole Foods market at Columbus Circle right across from the train and just 3 blocks from our hotel. It was a grand end to great getaway.
And we escaped just before the weather turns really cold tomorrow.
