My nose is running, my chest is tightening
My eyes are starting to tear
In physical infirmities
the signs of Spring are clear.
The bark is peeling, the ground is muddy
Fall’s golden leaves still deconstructing
While new shoots unfurl in crazy profusion
Bursting with buds of spring
The economy, too, shakes off disintegration
Tentative shoppers reclaim their stores
With a stylish new dress, a haircut and more
It was a winter to remember. Or maybe to forget.
Deep in winter’s gloom and fear
No thought to spring’s pollenated air
Then, suddenly, these longer days
Arrive to awaken and amaze
I cannot remember a harder season
A darker winter’s hibernation.
But in these early warming days,
Bloom signs of spring’s regeneration.
